A touring motorcycle is a bike that is specifically designed for long-distance tours and heavy commuting. The motorcycles in this category get high ground clearance with the help of their large fuel reserves and large displacement and under stressed engines. This enables high reliability and a heavy torque output. Typical global touring bikes are very large, are great at top speeds on the highway, and handle the best of them all. Some noteworthy examples of a global touring bike is the BMW F650GS, F800GS and R1200GS; the KTM 950 and 990 Adventure series; the Suzuki DL1000 and DL650 V-Strom; and the venerable Kawasaki KLR650.
